バーナード・ルイス（Bernard Lewis, 1916年5月31日 - ）は、ユダヤ系イギリス出身の歴史学者。プリンストン大学名誉教授。専門はイスラム・中東史。

人物

ロンドン生まれ。ロンドン大学東洋アフリカ研究学院(SOAS)卒業。第二次世界大戦中、イギリス外務省に勤務し、戦後、ロンドン大学教授に就任。1974年から、プリンストン大学教授となる。

中世イスラム史の研究から出発し、渡米後は、時事評論に活動の場を広げ、アメリカの中東・イスラム観の形成に大きな影響を及ばした。アメリカのイスラム研究における権威といわれる。当初はイスラームに対する客観的な研究で名高かった。

しかし1978年には左派のエドワード・サイードによって欧米文明優越主義・反イスラーム主義的な観点から画一的なイスラムの見方を普及させる「オリエンタリスト」と批判されたり[1] 、ネオコンの中東政策を支えるイデオローグといった一面も見せ、右派色を強めている。
