'''アンソニー・ダウンズ'''（Anthony Downs, [[1930年]] - ）は、[[アメリカ合衆国|アメリカ]]の[[政治学者]]。

[[カールトン・カレッジ]]卒業後、[[スタンフォード大学]]で経済学博士号を取得。1977年より[[ブルッキングス研究所]]上級研究員。

二大政党もしくは二大有力候補が小選挙区で競争する際に、政策が一つに収斂していくという命題は、いわゆる「ダウンズ均衡」として知られる。これはダウンズ独自の着想と言うよりも、[[ハロルド・ホテリング]]や[[ダンカン・ブラック]]による[[中位投票者定理]]を選挙競争に置き換えたものである。

主著『民主主義の経済理論』は[[経済学]]のアナロジーで政治現象を分析したものであるが、後に政治現象が本格的な数理分析の対象となる上で、一定の基盤をつくったといえる。
